lighting your fire
what you need...
- Chimney starter
- Lump charcoal or briquettes
- Newspaper
- Lighter
- Wood chunks
Step one
Ball the newspaper up and place under the base of the chiminey starter, being careful not to make it too tight to ensure it burns.
Step Two
Add your charcoal or briquettes so the chimney starter is around half full. Light the newspaper, the shape of the chimney will direct all the heat upwards into the coals, and in about 20 mins they should be glowing hot.
Step Three
Now fill your basket around 3/4 full with unlit charcoal and add a few chunks of your chosen wood. Making sure you are wearing a good quality BBQ glove pour your hot coals on top of your unlit fuel in the basket. A full basket of charcoal using this method (also known as the minion method) will burn for up to 20 hours depending on the quality of the fuel, weather and cooking temperature.
